What is PICNIC in the PARK?
PICNIC in the PARK is an annual Live Music event held in the village of Sutton-in-the-Isle. A family oriented, all-inclusive event, open to everyone. This year we have five talented singers and bands to entertain you. We encourage local involvement and village organisations, groups and businesses all help to make this an amazing event for all the family. We often see multi generations of the same family all enjoying themselves.
All being well, PICNIC in the PARK will conclude with a firework display.
When, Where & What Time?
Picnic in the Park takes place on the 31st August 2024 at the Brooklands Playing Field (behind the British Legion), Sutton, Ely, Cambs. CB6 2QQ.
The gates open to the public at 2:30pm with the first singer, LUKE JAMES WILLIAMS kicking things off at 3pm. LUKE is followed by ALTERNATIVE SPLIT, then THE 29th KUNCTION. Next is WARREN IRELAND who some of you may remember from our BANDS, BOOZE and BEACONS event a couple of years back. And headlining this year are local energetic group PARK LANE. The music will finish at approximately 9pm. All being well the event will close with some fireworks which will last approx. 10 mins.
For those who think a 9:15pm finish is too early, live music continues in the British Legion with “FROM THE CASUALS”. The British Legion is open to everyone on the day.
Where can I get tickets & how much?
Admission is on the gate only. There are no advance tickets.
Admission prices are Adults £10, Under 18’s £5 and Under 5’s FOC
You can pay with cash or card.
Please Note: All Under 16’s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
What type of Live Music is there?
As always, we have a varied music line-up. We start off a bit mellow and get a bit more energetic towards the end. In order from start to finish we have, LUKE JAMES WILLIAMS, ALTERNATIVE SPLIT, THE 29thFUNCTION, WARREN IRELAND and PARK LANE.
As mentioned earlier, after the fireworks have finished, live music continues in the British Legion with “FROM THE CASUALS”.
The British Legion is open to everyone on the day.
Will there be Fireworks?
Yes. It is our intention to finish Picnic in the Park with a firework display which will last approx. 10 mins.
There is a small chance that this may not go ahead but all being well it should.
If we decide to cancel the fireworks it would most likely be due to the weather conditions, too dry, too wet, too windy etc. Safety is paramount.
If there are very few people attending the event (less than 150) we reserve the right to cancel the fireworks. If this is the case the fireworks will be used at our Firework Display in November.
For residents who have pets that maybe concerned because of the fireworks, please keep your pets safe. All being well the fireworks will start just after 9pm and will last approx. 10 mins.
Please note times may vary depending on circumstances on the day, however the fireworks should not go beyond 9:30pm.
What about food?
You are welcome to bring your own food or purchase a variety of hot food, supplied by fabulous people at Sutton Scouts. Cakes are also available from the Church / Nellies / WI tent.
PLEASE NOTE: Hot Food will stop being served at 8pm - so if you're hungry please purchase your hot food well before 8pm.
What about drink?
Again you are welcome to bring your own, alternatively you can purchase beer from the on-site REAL ALE BAR and other alcoholic or soft drinks from the British Legion Bar which is open to the public throughout the event.
Both the REAL ALE BAR and the BRITISH LEGION will be operating a CHALLENGE 25 policy. If you are over 18 and under 25 (or look much younger than your age!) please bring a photo ID with you.
Tea & Coffee are available from the Church / NELLIES / WI Tent.
We would advise you not to bring glass onto the site. If you do and it gets broken, please inform a member of staff. The field is used on a regular basis for football and therefore we wouldn’t want any broken glass left on the grass.
This is a family event – please drink sensibly.
Can I have my face painted?
Yes, once again Facepainting is provided Free of Charge for all Under 18’s. Adults can also have their face painted for a donation.
Are there Toilets on site?
Toilets are located in the British Legion Building.
Can I leave the event and return later?
Yes, providing you are wearing your wristband. You will be given a wristband upon entry, please wear it at all times during the event. This way you will be allowed re-entry.
Anyone not wearing a wristband may be asked to leave or pay the admission fee.
Can I bring pets / animals?
Sorry No. Pets and animals are not allowed. The exception to this is assistance dogs.
What Should I Wear?
Well that’s entirely up to you and probably depends on the weather. We would advise to bring something a bit warmer for later as it can get a bit chilly in the evening once the sun has set (around 7:45pm).
Can I take, and will the Organisers be taking photographs / videos?
You are welcome to take photographs and videos for your own personal use. If you intend to use any photographs or videos for commercial use, please contact the Sutton Feast Committee before the event.
If you publish any photographs or videos on Social Media all we ask is that that they portray the event in a positive way. We reserve the right to request any negative media is removed.
The Sutton Feast Committee will also be taking photographs and videos and these may well be published on the Internet and Social Media. Please be aware these photographs and videos may show children (enjoying themselves).
Parking
As this is a local family event we would encourage people to walk to the event where possible.
There is very little parking at Picnic in the Park. There is a very small number of parking spaces in the car park between the School and the British Legion. Please note the first two rows of parking spaces will be reserved for residents of the British Legion (not members) and for disabled parking. If you do need to drive and park, there is street parking in the local vicinity. Please park sensibly and don’t block entrances, driveways etc. and always make sure there is enough room for emergency vehicles if required. We would advise not to park on The Brook as this is a very busy road.
